Fare-Thee-Well Rock-tober 2006

I have to admit ... this was a kickin' season ... never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect this season to be as full of fun as it has been.

Let's see, Trevor is still a beaut little dude and continues to amaze and entertain me ... a friend's new one just arrived (congrats Christine & Mike!) Welcome to the world of being a Libra, Kamryn Rae ... pumpkins, parties, good friends, healthy families, good energy all around ... who could ask for more?

Much of the fun and eventfulness is due to my bud, Bunny, without whom I wouldn't have and couldn't have made this year what is was ...

And so, as another season rolls on, another one begins ... Martina ushered in the Scorpio Season over this past weekend ... here's to all you Scorpio's out there (you know who you are!)...

To you, Rock-tober 2006 ... Fare Thee Well ... until next year ... adios, auf wiedersehen, ciao, bon voyage ...

(in your best Elvis voice imitation) "uh, thank ya -- thank ya very much!!"

J.M. Barrie's Worst Nightmare...?

It's our little family's first Hallowe'en...and what an affair it has been!!

Originally, Terry & I were going to be Fred and Wilma...but we just couldn't dress little Trevor like Pebbles!! And there just wasn't any way we were going as Barney and Betty....so the idea turned towards Star Wars...eww...geek central...Hello-o! There are some really sweet costumes for the Beaner....maybe next year he'll be Yoda or Darth or an X Winger Fighter.....then it was The Incredibles...Super Heroes...The Drei (3) Elvi...oh and so many more............and then...oooh and then....

After tiring of listening to me stress about what we were going to do about Hallowe'en, Terry finally took over the search and found the costume for Trevor..."Hey, that pirate suit looks pretty good - especially since this is how his bedroom is decorated. Humm, so for me....ha ha ha ha ha, OMG, I'll be Peter Pan! Oh yeah! Then you can be Tinker Bell...yeah, baby, yeah!"

You have got to admit...this is absolutely classic!!!!

And so, we are living versions of Barrie's imagination...in a way, I am sure, he never intended!

Germany's own Rock-tober fest?!

it's twoo it's twoo! From October 13 - 23, in our area, is October-kerwe ... basically the carnival celebrating Autumn...how cool is this?! We went to the Kerwe in Hutschenhausen where our friends grew up and some still live. It wasn't very big, but it ran from Friday to Monday night...including carnival rides for the kids, games, candy vendors and of course, our favorite, the beer tent.

People go there every day and stay there until they are, well...good and happy. Some get up early in the morning and do what we would call a pub crawl, but they do it all day and end up at the Kerwe to finish off the day...now there are some serious partiers. We only managed a couple of hours in the late afternoon on Sunday.

Trevor was super while he was there....he loved looking at all the trees (and the changing colors) and people watching. He was a little antsy until I put the sling on Terry, then the Garbo boys were good to go...I was really surprised at how much Trevor enjoyed being in the sling and checking things out straight on.

Everyone said there was one thing missing....BEVERLY! "Where is she and when is she coming back?!"

This was great!! It was a beautiful October day...good friends, good drinks, good times....one more way to make the most of this Rock-tober!!! Yeeee Haw!!

Bev's Rhode Island Adventure

I had a wonderful time in Rhode Island. There is so much history there and so beautiful. The "summer cottages" (the Mansions) are awesome to see. We had a walking tour of the historical district, walked through two of the mansions, the Breakers and the Elms. There are many others that can be seen. Two movies were fillmed at Mable House, The Great Gatsby and True Lies. We also walked two miles of the Cliff Walk which is a National Historical Walking Trail along the ocean and behind the great mansions. We took a boat tour of the bay, a trolley ride around the scenic coast line and of course Barb had us everywhere in her car. We spent our last day touring Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with a stop in Hyannis Port. We saw two light houses and walked the beach at Chatham, ending the trip with a delicious lobster dinner.

And I am totally jealous! These pictures Mom sent just don't do any justice (I am sure!)...She sent us a DVD of the "summer cottages" and it was truly amazing to see. Being over in Europe, you sometimes forget the history in your own backyard and the beauty it entails. These houses rival some of the most amazing castles and chateaus I have seen over here. But after seeing these photos and watching the DVD, it really makes me long for home...especially New England, my birth area...........how magnificent!!

we ARE a good influence

Funny conversation with my Mom the other day...she starts off with, "I'm thinking of going to the Octoberfest that is happening nearby...I could really go for one of those nice German beers...and... it says if you were lederhosen or a drindl you get a dollar off..."

"Hum, well, maybe if you take your walking stick* you can get your dollar off that way...it sounds like it should be fun...be sure to let me know how it goes."

Not long after that conversation, I received this email:

Hi,
I wore my Heidelberg sweatshirt and got a $1.00 off a $3.00 small plastic beer mug and then had to pay $3.00 for the beer. They had 3 kinds of beer on tap. One called octoberfest, becks and 2 others I never heard of. I had a bratwurst with sauerkraut, chicken corn soup and a large pretzel. The pretzel wasn't as good as a German one. I had a nice conversation with an older woman who is orginially from Austria. Her friend has a nice collection of beer steins on display, 4 large Villeroy & Boch steins worth $10,000. It was a small event, but a nice one.

I am SO happy that Mom is getting out there and getting her Germany fix back home...we just need to get her back to the real Germany!!!

*Germans have walking sticks here - they take them everywhere and actually use them when they go walking or on hikes. Each town has small aluminum medallions you can purchase and attach to your walking stick...a conversation piece by showing off where one has been.

Terry and I surprisingly found one at the souvenir shop at Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas!
This is Terry's walking stick.

Rock-tober has begun!!

It's official....Rock-tober has officially started. I celebrate not just my birth DAY but my birth MONTH, thus Rock-tober! Usually, the kick off is September 25th, my Libra-Sista's b-day, but this year I got an earlier start. September 15th was Bunny's b-day smash and so, I deemed the beginning of Rock-tober then.

MY b-day celebration started on 30 September when good friends got together with us for a lovely dinner at the local Greek restaurant. Fortunately, there were plenty of arms to carry Trevor around, as he was not content to sit in his seat...so he got lots of tours of the restaurant by pretty much everyone at the table. He's not spoiled! ha ha ha.

After dinner, Bunny and I visited a local watering hole and ended up spending quite a long time there...but it was all okay as we had a bang-up time ringing in 1 October. I was glad that Terry and I didn't have anything planned for Sunday as I knew I wasn't going to be up to par....

1 October...Bunny and I went to Taco Bell for my birthday/hangover lunch. After we did a little shopping, we headed over to Claudia's house to hang out a bit and then we headed out for a nice walk in the woods. It was such a beautiful day, I wish I hadn't been so tired!!

We got back to her place and started tasting some "neu" wine...this is a big thing around here...having some 1st pressed wine with an onion tart...it's pretty tasty, low in alcohol content and is preobably the next best thing to prunes...if you catch my drift.......

We decided to head back to my place as Claudia and Bunny agreed to babysit for us so that Terry and I could go out for a nice dinner....but when we arrived, Terry had arranged a surprise party...BBQ'ing and lots and lots of beer. More importantly, all of our good friends were there and it was great seeing them all.

The best present I got this year was from my Dad. He called me up to ask me if I wanted good news or bad news first. I'll take the bad news first, of course. "The bad news is that you aren't getting your birthday present until February." And the good news? "I'm coming out to see you!" This may not seem to be that big of a deal, unless you know my Dad. Terrified of flying, he is finally putting his apprehension aside and making it across the pond...I am totally thrilled, although I don't think I really believe it...but how fantastic!!!

So...the start of Rock-tober has been way better than I could have ever expected, especially since Trevor is around now. I wasn't sure how things would go this year...but everything is wonderful!! I have a kick-ass husband who is so good to me (he got me a gorgeous ring with 3 floating diamonds) and who surprises me constantly. I have a beautiful little boy who is in good health and has a wicked cool personality (he constantly makes me laugh). And I have good friends to celebrate and hang with....not bad for the end of my 35th year!
