second things second -- this ain't your "Peachtree" variety schnapps.
German schnapps is an alcohol made purely from fresh fruits...schnapps is more like grappa...the likor is more your sweet liqueurs.
Our friends Claudia and Michael arranged for a Probe at their friends (Ossie) distillery, to celebrate Beverly's (my Mom) last night in Germany. Michael showed up unexpectedly at our house to pick up her up in a nice Mercedes limo. Our friends, Claudia, Carmen and Martina were already in the car, ready to go. Terry and I had planned on going separately (since we were taking Trevor) but I got taken in the limo as well. And what an awesome ride!!
First, Michael ushered us into the car and handled all of our "baggage." The champagne was then popped and we were off to Ossie's. We were served a delish German dinner...then Heinz Glass (of Epitath fame) showed up to provide us with the evening's entertainment. He played the most beautiful accoustic guitar I have ever heard. And then the Probe started....
It was slow at first, each of us smelling, toasting, relishing the tastes of the schnapps and likors (some not so good, others waaaay better)...considering Ossie makes at least 75 different types of schnapps, we were in for a loooong evening.
We had plum, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, fig, apple/cinnamon schnapps.....there were others......and the likors....oooh the likors!! too many to try to remember.....
needless to say, we had a fabulous time...getting silly, laughing...toasting to each other....singing along with Heinz's songs (that had to be pretty bad)...dissing the guys to get out....but the best was yet to come.....
When Ossie had had enough of us, he loaded us back into the limo to drive us back home. Now, Ossie's place is in the country....rolling hills all around...fields and tons of open land with curvy country roads....
Now, I'm not sure how the following started, but the sunroof was opened and one thing lead to another....sure enough, Beverly is standing up in the limo hanging out the sunroof....."c'mon Carmen....do this with me......WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO" and they both sit back down. Next it was Me and Claudia..."YYYEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAW"....Mom and Martina, Carmen and Claudia, Me and Martina.....all screaming our heads off out of the sunroof. It was FANTASTIC.
I'll never forget hearing my mom say to us all in the car, "There isn't this kind of fun where I'm from!" And really, doesn't that sum it all up?!
